My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

“Praise the Lord.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.”
– Psalm 106:1

“Give thanks to the Lord.”  I find it hard to utter those words these days.  2020 has not been the year I imagined back on January 1.  I do give thanks to the Lord, however, because I am blessed.  Perhaps you are too.  I am grateful for my family and friends, for God’s creation, for those who serve our community, for our essential workers, for those who grow, produce, and deliver our food, for our priests and religious, and for you, the Cursillo community.

When I stop complaining about “my loss of 2020”, I realize that perhaps God forced me to rearrange my priorities.  I pay more attention to relationships near and far. I am more attentive to those impacted greatly by this pandemic and to those whose daily, pre-Covid struggles have been amplified and illuminated by it.  I’m praying more often and longer.  Many of you taught me to “chose joy”.

I know you all are grateful for God’s blessings in your lives. I hope that this Thanksgiving week allows you time and space to reflect on God’s goodness in your lives.

On behalf of the Secretariat, I wish your families and you a safe, healthy, faith-filled, joyful, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Our first online Ultreya is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, November 23 at 6:45PM. The Fall 2019 Men’s and Women’s teams are jointly hosting.  And there will be one small surprise!  Members of the Secretariat will “hang around” afterwards to answer any questions you might have.  Details below.  We are looking forward to seeing all of you!

Julie Goshy-Stalions will start a new Co-Ed Group Reunion (4th Day) that will meet on Saturdays from 9AM-10AM.  It starts November 28.  Details are below.

We are looking to secure a date for an online Advent Liturgy with Father Chris Bennett.  Please keep an eye out for more information in the next 1-2 weeks. We will post the link in the near future so that all of you may be able to attend.

The Secretariat is discerning for both the Post-Cursillo Chair and the Three-Day Chair. These are opportunities to serve our community and be a steward to the Cursillo Charism.  The situation is becoming urgent. Won’t you please prayerfully consider serving our Community? Please see below.

And finally, please keep in prayer, our Cursillistas who are struggling with cancer, COVID-19 and/or the loss of love ones.

You are in my daily prayers!

Sincerely and De Colores,
Larry Cargnoni

P.S. For your convenience, the list of Group Reunions (4th Day Groups) can be found now at this link: www.sanjosecursillo.org/fourth-day/.   AND we’ve included a space for Co-Ed Group Reunions.   Please let us know if your Group Reunion (4th Day Group) needs to be added or updated.

New Group Reunion (4th day) Forming!

Many people in our community would like to be part of a Group Reunion/4th day group, however during these days of minimal contact, it might be difficult.  This is an opportunity to meet and to share online until we can meet in person.  Open to men and women here in San Jose or joining long distance.

Starting November 28 at 9AM via Zoom, there will be an open meeting to share Piety, Study and Action for the week.  The meeting will open with sharing guidelines, a brief verse or antiphon to help to center ourselves, followed by the Holy Spirit prayer and then on to sharing. The meeting will end when everyone has had a chance to share their PSA. Final closing will be a traditional prayer.

This is an open meeting.  Attending every week is not mandatory, join when you can, feel free to reach out to other Cursillistas.

Secretariat Update

As noted above, we started our discernment for our Post-Cursillo Chair and Three-Day Chair. We are asking the community to prayerfully discern those who are willing to serve. Serving on the Secretariat is a commitment of three years.

While we aren’t conducting weekends, the Secretariat has been busy. The Secretariat is in a unique spot.  We are dealing with COVID and we are currently reviewing all aspects of our weekend and traditions.

Dealing with COVID has pushed our programs completely online. In the spring and summer, we held a number of weekly and bi-weekly events.  They were popular for some.  School of Leaders is active. Group Reunions / 4th Days are active.  We need new ideas for engaging Community and building our and refreshing our parish representatives.

There is a new Rector / Rectora Step-by-Step manual that came from National that forces us to review our weekend content and structure.  The discussions are thoughtful and introspective.  There will be some changes.  And we will retain most current traditions.  Eventually, we will need to provide updated guidance to the teams.

The Secretariat is a supportive group and we help each other.

Would you please prayerfully consider it?  I am happy to answer questions.  I invite you to talk to other Secretariat members.

Please reach out to Larry Cargnoni for more information if you are interested. You can contact us and find a summary of the role at www.sanjosecursillo.org/secretariat.
