Dear Friends …

Peace and love of Christ be with you all! I hope your February goes well.

Our Spring Men’s and Women’s teams are busily preparing for the upcoming Cursillo weekends. The Men’s weekend is April 4 – 6, 2019 and Women’s weekend is May 2-5, 2019. The team lists and other information about the weekends can be found under the Current Weekends section of the San Jose Cursillo website.

Now is the time to be talking to your friends and family about making a weekend. Check out our website at for more information including the following links:

Our next Ultreya will be held this upcoming Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 6:45PM to 9:00PM at Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale. Here are directions on Google Maps. If you are part of our private Facebook group, please RSVP for the event.

Please save the date and make it a priority to attend. Our Ultreyas are one of the best ways to gather, build our community, and share our moments closest to God with each other.

At this Ultreya, we will have a chance to give back. After the witness talks and meditation, we will make bags to “give back” to those in need with toiletries, blankets, a prayerful note, and other useful items. If you have toiletries, new or slightly used blankets, or new socks, please feel free to bring them if you would like to donate. Please join us and let’s make a difference together. If you can not make it but would like to donate, please contact our Post Cursillo Co-Chair, Amy Blalock Castillo, using the “Send Me a Note” link under the Secretariat section of the San Jose Cursillo website.

School of Leaders

The February School of Leaders has been moved to Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 6:45PM to 9:00PM at Saint Christopher’s Church. Here are directions on Google Maps. If you are part of our private Facebook group, please RSVP for the event.

School of Leaders are open to all Cursillistas and are always informative. Deacon Ray Gans from Holy Family Parish will give the doctrine talk on “Being Called.” I hope to see you all there.

Lay Director Opening

As I mentioned last month, my three-year term as Lay Director ends this June 2019.

We are now accepting nominations for the position of Lay Director.

Nominations for the position of Lay Director may be made by any Cursillista (for themselves or others). The nominations should be made in writing listing the qualifications of the nominee and submitted to Chris Basanese by either:

  • Email:
    • Subject: Lay Director Nomination
  • Mail:
    • San Jose Cursillo Secretariat
    • Attn: Chris Basanese
    • P.O. Box 6648
    • San Jose, CA 95150

We will also have openings for the Pre Cursillo Chair and School of Leaders Chair at the end of June.  Please contact me if you would like more information or if you are interested about the position including how you can serve the wider community and movement.

Religious Life

Lisa Basanese, a Cursillista (and daughter of Chris and Norma Basanese), made her simple profession this last Saturday at Corpus Christi Monastery in Menlo Parkbecoming a professed Religious – a Dominican Nun. Her religious name is Sr. Mary Francis of the Holy Cross, O.P.

Please keep her and the community there in your prayers.

In Conclusion …

Know that you are all in my prayers everyday. If you ever have any questions, concerns or even things you are happy about that you wish to share with me – send me an e-mail message and I will do my best to respond by email or phone.
