My Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

“Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing.
In all circumstances
give thanks,
for this is the will of God for you
in Christ Jesus”

– 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Advent. The time we prayerfully pray and hope in the coming of our Lord, serving God as we do. In these times, too, many pray and hope to an end to this pandemic, systemic racism, and a severely divided nation.

We are accountable to our Lord for our faith and actions. As we pray, wait, and serve, may I please remind you to reach out to those in our Cursillo and greater community. While Christmas may be “different” this year, the need to connect with others is not. Reach beyond your circle, tribe, group, family and consider connecting with someone you may not know well: an email, a phone call, a Christmas card, palanca, or a bag of groceries. Pass on the love and blessings that’ve been given to you. Our Lord will thank you.

We invite our Cursillo community to journey together this Advent. Please join us!

Our online Advent Liturgy, hosted by Fr. Chris Bennett is tomorrow on Monday, December 14 at 7PM (lines open at 6:45PM). The theme is “Walking with Mary during this Advent Season.” Details below. We are looking forward to seeing all of you!

School of Leaders will gather this Wednesday, December 16 at 7PM (lines open at 6:45PM). Fr. Bob Leger will deliver the doctrinal talk. The topic will be “Importance of Full Participation in the Mass, Study Rollo, and Action Rollo.” Details below!

Julie Goshy-Stalions started a new Co-Ed Group Reunion (4th Day) that meets on Saturdays from 9AM-10AM. This is a great way to start your weekend! Details are below.

Please hold January 11 for our next online Ultreya! Our first online Ultreya last month was successful. Details will come soon.

Please share your voices as part of a virtual choir praising our Lord, Jesus Christ! We created a virtual sing along and video signaling “Joy to the World”. Details below!

Lastly, it is with sad news to share that our dear sister, Rita Russo, has passed away tonight ago after battling with pancreatic cancer. Rita Russo made her Cursillo weekend on Fall 2000, became Rectora in Fall 2007, and served on 17 weekends. Rita Russo was also pivotal in helping other women discern to become the next Rectora and candidates to become the next Lay Director. You may offer words of condolences and prayer on our Facebook page.

We will most likely integrate a remembrance for Rita during the Advent Liturgy on Monday December 14 at 6:45.  Details are being worked.  Please join us. The link will work.

Please continue to keep in prayer, our Cursillistas who are struggling with cancer, COVID-19 and/or the loss of love ones.

You are in my daily prayers!

Sincerely and De Colores,
Larry Cargnoni

Cursillo Community Sing Along!

The Secretariat invites the Cursillo community to share their voices for “Joy to the World” as we celebrate Advent and prepare the way of the Lord!

During this difficult time, we may not be able to sing together as a community. However, we can share our voices as part of a virtual choir praising our Lord, Jesus Christ!

All you need is a working microphone and camera. You can record yourself as many times as you like at your own pace and at any time (even at 3:00AM).

Once compiled, the video will be shared to the wider community in time for Christmas!

If you and your family would like to be part of the choir, please submit your video online by Sunday, December 20th, 2020.

Instructions can be found at Please reach out to John Vu if you have any questions.

Saturday Mornings! New Co-Ed Group Reunion (4th Day) Formed!

Join Zoom Meeting
Many people in our community would like to be part of a Group Reunion (4th Day) Group. However, during these days of minimal contact, it might be difficult. This is an opportunity to meet and to share online until we can meet in person. Open to all men and women here in San Jose or joining long distance.

On Saturday mornings, there is an open meeting to share Piety, Study and Action (PSA) for the week. The meeting will open with sharing guidelines, a brief verse or antiphon to help to center ourselves, followed by the Holy Spirit prayer and then on to sharing. The meeting will end when everyone has had a chance to share their PSA. Final closing will be a traditional prayer.

This is an open meeting. Attending every week is not mandatory but please join when you can and feel free to reach out to other Cursillistas.

Secretariat Update

We started our discernment for our Post-Cursillo Chair and Three-Day Chair. We are asking the community to prayerfully discern those who are willing to serve. Serving on the Secretariat is a commitment of three years.

While we aren’t conducting weekends, the Secretariat has been busy. The Secretariat is in a unique spot. We are dealing with COVID and we are currently reviewing all aspects of our weekend and traditions.

Dealing with COVID has pushed our programs completely online. In the spring and summer, we held a number of weekly and bi-weekly events. They were popular for some. School of Leaders is active. Group Reunions / 4th Days are active. We need new ideas for engaging Community and building our and refreshing our parish representatives.

There is a new Rector / Rectora Step-by-Step manual that came from National that forces us to review our weekend content and structure. The discussions are thoughtful and introspective. There will be some changes. And we will retain most current traditions. Eventually, we will need to provide updated guidance to the teams.

The Secretariat is a supportive group and we help each other.

Would you please prayerfully consider it? I am happy to answer questions. I invite you to talk to other Secretariat members.

Please reach out to Larry Cargnoni for more information if you are interested. You can contact us and find a summary of the role at
