Fall is rapidly approaching. Those with children and those who teach are extra busy with the start of the new school year.
Our Fall Cursillo teams continue to be busy preparing for the upcoming weekends. The team list for both weekends are available now on the Cursillo website and candidate lists will be up shortly [Link]. Let’s show our support by praying for team and candidates alike and by getting our Palanca cards and notes telling of our prayers and good works ready to send to St. Clare’s. Please also plan to attend Manañitas and the Sunday evening potlucks. Both of the potlucks will be held at Avila Hall at Santa Teresa Parish at 794 Calero Avenue in San Jose, California.
At the August Ultreya and the August School of Leaders session, we introduced the updated Cursillo application and trifold. Our intent in updating both is to provide candidate and sponsor alike with a better understanding of what the weekend and the Cursillo Movement are all about. The application is available now on the Cursillo website [Link]. A downloadable copy of the trifold will be available on the website in the near future. Please use these aids when pitching Cursillo to your friends and family.
As Cursillo weekends draw near, I am often asked, “Is there room on the upcoming weekends?” My answer is usually yes for the men and maybe for the women, but in either case, get the application and deposit mailed in sooner rather than later. While weekends can fill up, especially for the women, it is not unusual for people who signed up to make the weekend find they need to drop before the weekend starts. These drops open up room for those whose applications and deposits are already in. If a weekend does fill up, those remaining on the waiting list are given first priority for the following weekend. As I write this, there remains room for the Men’s Fall weekend, while the Women’s Fall weekend is at the waiting list state. So please get those applications in.
Before we get to the Fall weekends, we have the September Ultreya and September School of Leaders. The times and dates are below. I strongly encourage everyone to attend both the Ultreya and School of Leaders. Both are great opportunities for time to build community, learn more about Cursillo and opportunities within the community.
While encouraging you to attend both, I want to really encourage you all to come to School of Leaders. Larry has been doing a fabulous job pulling these together. Each session has a great talk by one of our priests, deacons or religious followed by a talk on a technical aspect of Cursillo. August’s focus was on the weekend Music team. September’s focus is on the weekend meditations, reconciliation and Marian Devotions. So I look forward to seeing everyone at these events later this month.
Norma and I attended Memorial Services for two long time Cursillistas who recently entered their 5th day. Patty Meehan and Bob Davis (beloved husband of Polly Davis). Please keep their families and friends in your prayers as they mourn their passing.
As always – you are in my prayers,
